We've been pretty busy in the last two months! Our group of foster homes has over 20 dogs together, most of them puppies rescued from the shelter. We have even more cats than that! Puppy season has hit Martin County hard and the shelter is overflowing, which makes each animal's case critical. If you would like to become a foster parent for us, or adopt any animal you see here, contact us at any time at (252) 495-0627!
Another urgent case is Buddy (left), the sweet hound mix currently hanging around Rodger's Elementary School. He has been there for nearly four months, and concerned citizens are debating having him removed. If anyone is willing to offer a fenced yard to foster this boy, let us know!
We would like to thank our many supporters, especially on Facebook. Without it, our connections would be very limited. Thanks to everyone who shares and likes our posts!

Our first Adoption Day of 2012 was an enormous success! We brought 9 dogs and 2 cats to the Williamston Walmart, and 7 dogs and both cats were adopted! It isn't just about numbers, though. Part of being a volunteer involves meeting the people you hope to place animals with, and we were met with a wonderful number of honest, caring people this day. Look forward to reading this touching story in the February 9th issue of The Enterprise!

Moratoc Animal Rescue was asked to walk with the Jamesville Christmas Parade! We got some of the group together with many of our fosters. It was fun for everyone! We hope to participate in many more events in the future. We also had to cancel today's Adoption Day, and next week we will be painting the Martin County Animal Shelter building. For more details, follow us on Facebook or contact us!

This is the last Adoption Day we will have in the month of November! Our next meeting will be December 3, 2011 at the Walmart parking lot if weather permits. If it's too cold, we will set up beside Williamston Veterinary Hospital in their empty side. Check back often for any schedule changes! Or follow us on Facebook!

This was one of our most successful weekends this month! Four adoptions, and one remaining puppy was transferred to Virginia's SPCA. We love weeks like this!
Updates may be slower than usual, but we'll make every effort to keep up. Check The Enterprise each Thursday for our Tails of the Week article!

Our website has been inactive for some time, but behind the scenes we've been keeping very busy! Our group name has been changed to Moratoc Animal Rescue, to better convey our mission and work with rescuing abandoned and orphaned animals. We believe that educating the community is just as important as rescuing strays, and so we also work to explain the benefits of spaying/neutering companion animals.
Not only do we now have weekly Adoption Days at Walmart, but we're also very happy to announce our brand new pet of the week column, "Tails of the Week", in The Enterprise that runs every Thursday! Follow us here on Facebook to stay updated on new events, available animals, and much more!

MHS had their first fundraiser and adoption day! We were able to raise a little bit of money but were unable to place any animals. Help us spread the word that we are out there and we need your help to help these guys!

Summertime is in full-swing here in eastern North Carolina! This means sweltering temperatures and many risks for stray and orphaned animals. Fleas and ticks and various parasites swarm unprotected animals, so make sure to keep pets up-to-date on their medications. If you see a stray, contact your local shelters: don't let them suffer in those fur coats during this season! This also includes household pets, if you must keep animals outside, be sure to provide plenty of clean, fresh water and shade!

One of four malnourished kittens taken in by Moratoc volunteers.
To follow-up on the Robersonville confiscation, we would like to thank everyone who adopted and fostered cats and kittens from Martin County Animal Control. At our last count, there were approximately ten or so cats remaining. This means that over 50 cats were given a second chance: it is a phenomenal victory for animal-lovers everywhere. Please continue to check back for more updates!

Just one of several packed cages at Martin County Animal Control.
As of today, 21 cats from the Robersonville confiscation have been adopted. This outpouring of support from the community is greatly appreciated, not only by us, but also the lucky cats that have found their forever homes. However, there is still work to be done! Over 40 cats remain in the custody of Martin County Animal Control, who does not have the resources to maintain a healthy shelter environment for these poor animals. The cats that have not been adopted by Monday, May 12, will be euthanized...but there is still time to make a difference! Please spread the word, and if you would like to adopt or even foster a few of these unfortunate felines, we have a team ready to transport them to you--or you can visit the Martin County Animal Control yourself. Follow the links above for directions and contact information, and find your new companion today.
